Terry Murphy was the recipient of the Outstanding Leader in Agriculture Award from Montana State University in 1996.

A highly esteemed legislator with nearly 50 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Murphy is currently retired, having most recently served as a member of the Montana State Senate representing District 39, a position he held from 2007 to 2015. He was previously elected to the Montana State Senate for a term lasting from 1975 to 1978, as well as to the Montana House of Representatives from 1971 to 1972. Mr. Murphy was a director of the National Livestock and Meat Board from 1982 to 1990 and the Farmers Union Marketing and Processing Association from 1991 to 1994.
Mr. Murphy has held several administrative positions with a number of local organizations throughout his career. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees for Whitehall High School from 1966 to 1972 and 1976 to 1978. He further excelled as a director of the Montana Farmers Union from 1968 to 1976, to which he contributed as president from 1979 to 1989. Mr. Murphy also worked as the chairman of the Jefferson County Planning Board from 1994 to 1995.
Mr. Murphy is a member of the National Rifle Association and National Farmers Union. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Leader in Agriculture Award from Montana State University in 1996 and the Outstanding Conservationist Award from the Jefferson Valley Conservation District in 1973. In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Murphy was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in the West and Who's Who in American Politics.
