Prior to obtaining this role, he was an associate professor at the University of South Florida from 1987 to 1996, an assistant senior executive and vice president with the Islamic International Bank in Cairo, Egypt, from 1984 to 1987, and an assistant professor with the Catholic University of America from 1974 to 1984. From 1972 to 1974, he was a librarian with the University of Pittsburgh, having been an information analyst and chemical information officer with the school from 1967 to 1972. Earlier in his career, Dr. El Hadidy was a science information officer with the National Research Centre in Cairo from 1955 to 1961.
Dr. El Hadidy began his career as a student at Cairo University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in 1954. He later relocated to the United States, where he completed a Master of Library Science with Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, in 1963. Dr. El Hadidy concluded his studies in 1974, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in information science and technology from the University of Pittsburgh.
A respected voice in the field, Dr. El Hadidy has been active with a number of organizations in his community. He is a member of the American Association of University Professors, the American Library Association, Suncoast Information Specialists, and the Association of Library and Information Science Education. He has also been affiliated with the Association of Egyptian American Scholars, the Special Libraries Association, the Association for Computing Machinery, and the American Society for Information Science and Technology. Dr. El Hadidy is a former board member of the Tampa Palms Golf and Country Club, and he is a member of Beta Phi Mu.
Throughout his career, Dr. El Hadidy has been recognized for his contributions, having been named the 2000 SIG Member of the Year by the Association for Information Science and Technology. The recipient of an Outstanding Service in the Information Science Profession Award, he has been a grantee of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the National Science Foundation. Dr. El Hadidy has been featured in numerous honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the World.
