With 65 years of professional experience, Dr. Maloof has worked as a professor of mathematics at Boise State University since 1968, also serving the academic institute as the dean of the graduate school from 1970 to 1975 and a department head from 1968 to 1975. Prior to obtaining these roles, he excelled as an assistant professor of mathematics at Oregon State University from 1962 to 1968, where he also held the role of a research associate in the department of oceanography from 1963 to 1968. Earlier in his career, Dr. Maloof found success as a mathematician with the United States Naval Research Laboratory from 1958 to 1959 and as a petroleum reservoir engineer with the Creole Petroleum Corporation from 1953 to 1954.
Dr. Maloof began his career with the United States Army, completing service from 1950 to 1951. He then pursued an education at the University of California, Berkeley, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1953. He subsequently rejoined the Army, serving with the Aircraft Artillery and Ordnance Corps from 1954 to 1956. In 1958, he earned a Master of Arts from the University of Oregon. Dr. Maloof graduated from Oregon State University with a Doctor of Philosophy in 1962.
A respected voice in his community, Dr. Maloof has been active with a number of organizations in his areas of interest. He is a member of the Mathematics Association of America, the American Mathematics Society and the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics. The former president and director of the Northwest College and University Association for Science, he was a trustee of the Northwest Science Association and contributed on the education and research committee of the Association of Western Universities. A visiting professor of mathematics at Oregon State University, Dr. Maloof has been additionally affiliated with Sigma Xi, Pi Mu Epsilon, and Phi Kappa Phi.
Throughout his career, Dr. Maloof has been honored for his accomplishments. He accepted the Carter Award and the Mosser Prize from Oregon State University, as well as the Alumni Foundation Scholar Teacher Award from Boise State University.
