EAST HAMPTON, NY, December 07, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Charles A. Ehren Jr. of East Hampton, NY. with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Ehren celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Ehren held a long-term tenure at Valparaiso University as a professor in the School of Law for 19 years, also serving as the dean of the school for five years during this time. Prior to his years at Valparaiso, he had served as the first dean at the Pace University School of Law. In those decanal posts, he participated deeply in the worlds of legal education and university management.
Mr. Ehren began his career as an associate at LeBoeuf, Lamb and Leiby in New York City in 1958, where he started his life-long work in public law subjects, including regulatory law, legislation, energy and natural resources and environmental matters, and federal-state relations. He remained at the LeBoeuf firm for nine years before receiving a one-year Reginald Heber Smith fellowship from the School of Law at the University of Pennsylvania involving field work at the Legal Aid Society of Westchester County in White Plains, NY. At the Legal Aid Society, he began a new involvement in poverty law as a store-front lawyer, but also managed the incorporation of the separate, sister service organization, Westchester Legal Services, set up for the direct receipt of federal Legal Services Corporation funding.
After the Reginald Heber Smith fellowship, Mr. Ehren was appointed as Director of Curriculum at the National Institute for Education in Law and Poverty at Northwestern University, which ran continuing legal education programs for Legal Services Corporation lawyers throughout the United States. He served in that capacity for two years before accepting his first teaching position at the University of Denver in 1970.
At the University of Denver College of Law, Mr. Ehren worked in the areas of poverty law, natural resources, and energy law. In later years he also taught courses in legislation and professional responsibility. The latter entailed examination of the old Canons of Ethics and the new Model Rules of Professional Conduct and state by state variations. That work, for his final decade at Valparaiso, exposed Mr. Ehren to the entire scope of American law practice, including criminal law practice, prosecution and defense.
During his tenure at Denver, Mr. Ehren served simultaneously for two years as Executive Director of the Special Committee on Electric Power and the Environment of The Association of the Bar of the City of New York. He was co-author of the Committee's report, Energy and the Environment, the Reform of Legal Institutions, which was published in book form by West Publishing Company. Pursuant to the report's recommendations, Mr. Ehren drafted comprehensive proposed legislation to reorganize the federal electric energy regulatory system, establishing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. He presented to Congress both the report and the proposed legislation, much of which was followed by Congressional enactment.
It was after Denver that Mr. Ehren served for one year in his first post as a law school dean at Pace and then was appointed as visiting scholar at Columbia Law School for one year, before pursuing his most recent role at Valparaiso, from which he retired in 1996.
Mr. Ehren attended Columbia College where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1954 and Columbia Law School earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence two years later, being admitted to practice law in the state of New York that same year. After graduating, he served with the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958.
Apart from his professional responsibilities, Mr. Ehren has been affiliated with a number of law associations, including The Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the American Bar Association, the New York and Indiana State Bar Associations, the Federal Energy Bar Association, and the Society of American Law Teachers. He also served terms as a Director on the Boards of Westchester Legal Services and the Legal Aid Society of Westchester County and as a Trustee of the Indiana Continuing Legal Education Foundation and the Indiana Bar Foundation. He is listed in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in American Law.
In retirement, Mr. Ehren has been involved in East Hampton civic and political affairs, including serving as a vice president of his local property owners association, vice chairman of the Quiet Skies Coalition, and member of the East Hampton Town Board's Airport Noise Advisory Committee, and its Airport Management Advisory Committee. Much of Mr. Ehren's public service work has been concerned with the complex interaction of municipal law and federal aviation law. He has been active also in local Democratic Party affairs.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Charles A. Ehren Jr. has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
