With nearly four decades of experience in the field, Dr. Ifkovic most recently taught English at Tunxis Community College in Farmington, CT, from 1972 to 2003. Before taking this role, he taught at Branford High School in Branford, CT, from 1966 to 1969. Aside from his primary teaching roles, he lectured for the United States Information Agency in Washington, DC, from 1985 to 1999.
As a child, he was certain of two things: he would enjoy becoming a teacher and he would enjoy becoming a writer. He was always reading and spending time in his public library. After completing high school, he decided to pursue a formal education at Southern Connecticut State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1965. From there, he continued his studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received a Master of Arts in 1966.
In 1972, Dr. Ifkovic graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a Doctor of Philosophy. He considers this achievement to be the highlight of his career. There was a tornado in town the day he was awarded his degree, and a friend acknowledged the symbolism of him earning his degree and walking out into a tornado. He ultimately completed postdoctoral studies at Columbia University from 1979 to 1980.
Dr. Ifkovic wrote Anna Marinkovich in 1981, Yugoslavs in America in 1977, For Love of Country in 1977, Dream Street American Movies in 1979, and Mr. Dooley and Mr. Dunne in 1979. He also wrote the anthology American Letter in 1979 and co-edited Ethnic Perspectives in American Literature with Robert Di Pietro in 1985.
Among his nonfiction books are Diana's Dogs: Diana Ross and the Definition of a Diva, A Connecticut Local Colorist: The Life and Work of Annie Trumbull Slosson (2003), A Bend in the River: Voices from a Community College 1970-2000 (2001), as well as four books of memoirs: Still Life with Collie (2012), Trespassing in the Garden of Eden (2013), Confessions of Ricky Hitler (2014), and Speaking of Michelangelo (2014). He published an anthology: A Connecticut Christmas: Stories, Poems and Sermons 1774-1918 (2014).
In 2009 Dr. Ifkovic published the first of his Edna Ferber Mysteries for Poisoned Pen Press in Scottsdale, Arizona. To date, there are ten volumes in the series, using the famous American writer as his amateur sleuth. Lone Star (2009), Escape Artist (2011), Make Believe (2012), Downtown Strut (2013), Final Curtain (2014), Café Europa (2015), Cold Morning (2016), Old News (2017), Mood Indigo (2018), and Run Cold (2019).
Dr. Ifkovic has a second mystery series, using the pen name Andrew Lanh, one that deals with Rick Van Lam, a Vietnamese-American private investigator living in Hartford, Connecticut. They include Caught Dead (2014), Return to Dust (2015), No Good to Cry (2016), and Child of My Winter (2017).
Other fiction includes Ella Moon: A Novel Based on the Life of Ella Wheeler Wilcox (2001). David at Thirty (2005), Suppertime (2015), Missing in Action: 12 Stories (2015), A Girl Holding Lilacs (2002), Tommy's Path (2013), The Colored Artist: A Novel Based on the Life of Charles Ethan Porter (2015), Soutine in Exile (2017), and, with Eric Minh Tang, Dragon on a Ten-Speed (2004).

Aside from his professional endeavors, Dr. Ifkovic holds membership with the Modern Language Association and the Multi-Ethnic Literature Society of America, where he served as a chairperson from 1974 to 1976.
