With over 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Roy currently holds the title of professor emeritus with the Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY, and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. Prior to these roles, he held a number of other positions with both institutions. Commencing his career as a professor in the electrical engineering department at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1962, he joined the Albany Medical Center as a professor of anesthesiology in 1976. He remained in those roles until 1996 and 2003, respectively, when he became professor emeritus. Additionally, Dr. Roy formerly served as head of the biomedical engineering department at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and as an attending anesthesiologist and director of vascular anesthesia at Albany Medical Center.
Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Roy pursued an education at The Cooper Union in New York City, earning a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1954. Following this accomplishment, he obtained a Master of Science in electrical engineering from Columbia University in New York City in 1956 and a Doctor of Engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1962. Concluding his education with a Doctor of Medicine from Albany Medical College in 1976, Dr. Roy is certified as a professional engineer in the state of New York and is a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology for practice in the states of New York and Florida.
With vast amounts of expertise in the areas of electrical engineering, radar systems, biological systems processing, and more, Dr. Roy has served as a consultant for various companies since 1965. A celebrated author as well, he has contributed over 200 papers to professional journals and authored the book "State Variables for Engineers" in 1965, with a second edition in 1998. Additionally, he is a reviewer for 12 professional journals and holds a number of patents in his field. Dr. Roy also spent time with the New York Army National Guard from 1947 to 1951, initially serving in the 42nd Division under the father of a high school friend, before concluding his time with the New York Army National Guard in the 7th Regiment.
A lifetime member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Dr. Roy also maintains affiliation with the American Society of Anesthesiologists; Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society; and Eta Kappa Nu. Also an elected fellow of the American College of Anesthesiology, he was named an Outstanding Young Man of America, an American Man of Science and one of the Best MDs in America. Furthermore, he was presented with two Certificates of Merit from NASA and has been a grantee of NASA, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Science Foundation, among many others. Most recently honored as one of the Best Doctors in America in 2002, Dr. Roy has previously been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the East.
