Kate Amend has represented the Documentary Branch on the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

In addition, she was an editor on "Arrested Development: In the House," "The Long Way Home," "Tobacco Blues," "Some Nudity Required," Into the Arms of Strangers, "Pandemic: Facing AIDS," and "Beah: A Black Woman Speaks." Ms. Amend has also contributed her talents to "Cowboy Del Amor," "Jimmy Carter: Man from Plains, "Crazy Wisdom," "First Position," "Birth Story: Ina May Gaskin and the Farm Midwives," "The Case Against 8," "Serena: The Other Side of Greatness," "The Keepers," "Feminists: What Were They Thinking?," and "Foster."
Prior to obtaining her current position, Ms. Amend worked as a researcher and administrator for Judy Chicago's Dinner Party as well as an administrator for the Through the Flower Corporation from 1978 to 1981. Earlier in her career, she served as an instructor of humanities and women's studies with Diablo Valley College and the City College of San Francisco from 1973 to 1978. In addition to her primary roles, Ms. Amend has excelled as an adjunct professor for the University of Southern California since 1992.
Ms. Amend began her career as a student at the University of California, Berkeley, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1969. She concluded her studies at California State University at San Francisco, graduating with a Master of Arts in 1973. A member of the International Documentary Association, she has also been affiliated with American Cinema Editors and the American Motion Picture Academy. Notably, Ms. Amend has represented the Documentary Branch on the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and has served as an advisor for the Sundance Documentary Editing and Storytelling Laboratory.
Throughout her career, Ms. Amend has been recognized for her accomplishments. She has edited two Academy Award winning films, "The Long Way Home" and "Into the Arms of Strangers." She received the American Cinema Editors Eddie Award in 2001, and the International Documentary Association's Outstanding Editing Award in 2005. Furthermore, "Beah; A Black Woman Speaks" received a Peabody Award, and "The Case Against 8" was nominated for an Emmy Award. In 2016 she received an Honorary Doctorate from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Additionally, Ms. Amend has been featured in numerous editions of Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in Entertainment.
