Drawing upon more than 35 years of professional experience in the education industry, Ms. Nelson retired from her roles as lead adult basic education teacher and goal instructor for Waukesha County Technical College in 2005. Earlier in her career, she joined Oldline Life Insurance as a clerk, where she stayed for three years before beginning in education as a mathematics teacher with Menomonee Falls East High School. Over the years, she has also gained valuable expertise in mathematics education through Waukesha County Technical College, where she is proud to have developed a partnership with the local Rotary Club which included computer equipment donations and monthly luncheon symposiums. Additionally, she has lent her skills to numerous memorial funds, English education programs in her community and the Menomonee Falls School District. The biggest highlights of her career have been when students would come back and tell her what an impact she had on their lives along with Outstanding Educator of the Year awarded by Menomonee Falls District for her work with at risk high school students.
A certified teacher, Ms. Nelson holds a Bachelor of Science in education from Mount Mary University and a Master of Education from Carroll College. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, she maintained affiliation with the Wisconsin Mathematics Council and the Wisconsin Adult and Continuing Education Association. Whenever she wasn't working, she made it a point to give back to her community through St. Agnes Catholic Church, the Boy Scouts of America, the Menomonee Falls Education Committee, Families Learning Together, and Leadership Menomonee Falls Class and member of its Board of Governors.
For her outstanding work in the field of education, Ms. Nelson earned the 35-Year Service Friend of Education Award through Menomonee Falls Community School District, the 25th Year Award from the Wisconsin Mathematics Council, and features in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who of American Women. Looking forward, Ms. Nelson intends to continue giving back to others and enjoying her retirement.
