Drawing upon an extensive career and considerable expertise, he began his career as a management trainee and buyer at Woodward & Lothrop from 1960 to 1971, progressing to the roles of vice president, senior vice president and executive vice president between 1977 and 1987. Mr. Pugh later worked as the executive vice president and a board director for the Council of Better Business Bureau in Arlington, VA, from 1987 to 1990, demonstrating professional growth as well as commitment to his industry.
Initially earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at West Virginia University, Mr. Pugh graduated with a Master of Retailing at the University of Pittsburgh in 1960. In addition to his primary professional endeavors, he was a trustee for the chairman audit committee for Calvert Mutual Funds from 1983 to 2017. Mr. Pugh also served on the board of directors for Acacia Capital Corp as well as several committees for Acacia Federal Savings Bank.
Interested in remaining aware of developments in his industry, Mr. Pugh is a member of the National Retail Merchants Association, for which he was appointed to the board of directors in 1986. He is also affiliated with the West Virginia University Alumni Association, the Fairfax County Club, and Rotary International. Additionally, Mr. Pugh was involved with the Rotary Foundation of Washington as president from 1990 to 1991.
Mr. Pugh has been celebrated for his considerable industry-related developments. Notably, the Calvert mutual fund grew to fourteen billion while he was the chair of the audit committee, demonstrating his unmatched ability in the realm of finances. Likewise, Mr. Pugh was recognized as Rotarian of the Year in 1982.
