Prior to this appointment, he held the positions of lawyer, owner and partner of Williams, Malvik & Associates, P.C. from 1989 to 2006, having operated out of his private practice in Rock Island, Illinois, between 1980 and 1989. Previously, he served Braud, Warner, Neppl & Westensee Ltd. as a partner from 1980 to 1983. Mr. Malvik began his career with Rock Island County, serving as an assistant State's Attorney from 1974 to 1977 and an assistant public defender from 1977 to 1980.
Additionally, Mr. Malvik has held multiple roles for Quad-City Metropolitan Airport, including as authority commissioner since 2013, chairman of the authority commission since 2018, and chairman of the internal affairs committee between 2017 and 2018. He further excelled on numerous committees, subcommittees, and panels for Rock Island County, notably the Rock Island County Board, for which he was the District 18 Representative, and the Bi-State Regional Planning Commission from 1996 to 2010. Furthermore, Mr. Malvik was associated with Black Hawk College as an instructor from 1977 to 1979.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Malvik pursued an education at Augustana College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1971. He concluded his studies at DePaul University in 1974, graduating from the College of Law with a Doctor of Jurisprudence. Following these accomplishments, he was admitted to practice law by the Illinois State Bar Association and the Illinois State Supreme Court. Mr. Malvik has also represented cases for the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh and Eighth Circuits and the United States District Court for the Central and Northern Districts of Illinois.
Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Mr. Malvik has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He contributed to the Augustana College Wrestling Team as a volunteer coach from 1974 to 1989 and also since 2016, during which time he has also held the post of assistant coach. Certified as a teacher in secondary education by the state of Illinois, he is court certified as an arbitrator and a mediator. Mr. Malvik found success as a lecturer as well, having offered lectures at both Augustana College and Black Hawk College.
In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Malvik remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He maintained involvement with the American Bar Association, the Rock Island County Bar Association, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Trial Lawyers Association. He was also active with the National Geographic Society, the Tribe of Vikings at Augustana College, and Beta Omega Sigma, for which he was president from 1977 to 1979. Moreover, Mr. Malvik was the former president for the National Kidney Foundation, Quad Cities Chapter.
In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Malvik has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. He has been honored by the Leading Lawyers Network, as well as in the 12th edition of Men of Achievement in 1986. Likewise, he was presented with a Letter of Commendation and a Meritorious Service Award from the Illinois State Bar Association.
