Demonstrating impressive professional longevity, he worked as a partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom from 1981 to 2010. Previously, he served as an associate at the same firm from 1977 and 1981 as well as at Hughes Hubbard & Reed from 1973 to 1976.
Also interested in the educational arena, Mr. Phillips served as an adjunct associate professor at Fordham University from 1987 to 1988.
Mr. Phillips' career is punctuated by many accomplishments, and he was notably able to help Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom grow significantly during the duration of his career. He is the principal author and editor of "Structuring Corporate Acquisitions-- Tax Aspects", through which he exhibits his understanding of business transactions. Also completing service as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve, he has applied his multifaceted skill set to a varied career, and recently served as the head of Skadden's first Real Estate Investment Trust Practice Group from 2006 to 2010. He was admitted to practice by the State Bar Association of New York in 1974 and Connecticut Bar Association in 2017.
Interested in civic outreach, Mr. Phillips has been on the board of trustees for the Saint Thomas More Catholic Chapel & Center at Yale University since 2004, and previously served as chairman. He also served on the board of directors for the Student/Sponsor Partnership in New York City from 1990 to 1995 and has been a member of the board of consultants for Portsmouth Abbey School, and is currently an emeritus board member. Due to his accomplishments, Mr. Phillips has been recognized in several editions of such publications as Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World.
