Mr. Jacobs began his career with the Cable TV Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, DC, from 1968 to 1978. He maintained involvement with the FCC as chief of the certificate of compliance division from 1973 to 1974. After this opportunity, he served as assistant chief of the Cable TV Bureau of the FCC from 1974 to 1976. Mr. Jacobs continued his career with the Cable TV Bureau of the FCC as deputy chief from 1976 to 1978 and as chief of the broadcast facilities division of the Broadcast Bureau at the FCC from 1978 to 1980.
Mr. Jacobs was further associated with the FCC as a member of the Appellate Review Board from 1980 to 1987. From 1987 to 1999, he held the position of special counsel with Rosenman & Colin LLP in Washington, DC, and from 1999 to 2013, he worked as a partner with Cohn and Marks LLP in Washington, DC. Mr. Jacobs has been a solo practitioner at the Law Offices of Jerold L. Jacobs since 2013.
Prior to embarking on his career, Mr. Jacobs received a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, at Amherst College in Massachusetts in 1965. Following this accomplishment, he earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Harvard University in 1968. Mr. Jacobs was licensed to practice law by the New York State Bar in 1969 and the District of Columbia Bar in 1972.
In addition to his career, Mr. Jacobs was president of the Burke Townhouse Homeowners Association in Virginia from 1972 to 1973 and president of the Arlington-Fairfax Jewish Congregation, now Congregation Etz Hayim, from 1975 to 1977 and again from 1999 to 2001. From 1978 to 1980, he served on the executive board of the Jewish Community Council of Greater Washington in North Bethesda, MD. Mr. Jacobs held the position of president of the Cardozo Lodge of B'nai B'rith International in Arlington, VA, from 1982 to 1985 and from 1992 to the present, the Virginia State Association of B'nai B'rith International from 1995 to 1996, and the Chesapeake Bay chapter of B'nai B'rith International from 2014 to the present.
Mr. Jacobs was active as vice president of the Horizon Hill Civic Association in Rockville, MD, from 1983 to 1984 and president of the Washington, DC, chapter of the American Jewish Congress from 1984 to 1986. From 1986 to 1987, he was president of the Amherst Association of Washington, DC. Mr. Jacobs contributed to the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism as president of the Seaboard Region from 2002 to 2006 and as international secretary from 2005 to 2009.
Mr. Jacobs is a member of the Federal Communications Bar Association and a former member of the American Bar Association. He was named a Simpson Memorial Fellow in 1965 and has had an article published in Moment Magazine. Mr. Jacobs has previously been selected for inclusion in the first edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America and multiple editions of Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in the East.
