Backed by nearly 40 years of practiced industry experience, Dr. Murphy has held the title of professor emeritus at East Stroudsburg University since 1998, where he started as a professor in 1969. One of his proudest moments of his career was getting the chemistry program certified through the American Chemical Society. At the inception of his career, he joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a research associate. From there, he held roles of increasing responsibility with Ithaca College before transferring to East Stroudsburg University. Over the years, he gained a plethora of experience through positions with Lehigh University, the National Science Foundation, Cornell University and St. Anselm College. Throughout his career, he has achieved much, conducting research in the morphology of polymers, nonlinear optical effects in polymers, the history of chemistry and infrared spectroscopy of organometallic compounds.
An expert in his field, Dr. Murphy holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science from the University of New Hampshire, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy from the University at Buffalo. In order to remain abreast of changes in the field, he maintains affiliation with the American Chemical Society, the Pennsylvania Academy of Science, the History Science Society, the Society of Applied Spectroscopy and the Society of Plastics Engineers.
In his spare time, Dr. Murphy has given back to his community through the Monroe County Emergency Planning Commission, where he has worked since 1985. Previously, he lent his time to the Eastern Monroe Public Library and the Monroe County Historical Association. Looking ahead, Dr. Murphy intends to experience the continued growth and success of his career.
