Recently entering retirement in 2017, Dr. Jones has been designated as a professor emeritus of psychology and counseling at Arkansas State University. A highly respected teacher, mentor and colleague to many, he initially became involved in his profession due to an interest in people's political attitudes as a result of watching political campaigns on television. Pursuing psychology to study attitude, measurement and change, he eventually began his research on altruism and helping behavior, having since combined the learning theory with organizational theory and psychological development. Prior to accepting his first appointment at Arkansas State University in 1977, Dr. Jones worked as an assistant professor of psychology at the University of Kansas between 1975 and 1977.
Throughout his career, Dr. Jones conducted research and lectures on the use of learning strategies for the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Science, in Beijing, China. He presented at over a dozen workshops on learning strategies and behavior management to public school teachers and parents. Serving on the editorial boards for the Louisiana Education Research Journal and Education Research Quarterly, Dr. Jones has further accepted grants in his field, and has authored nearly 100 articles for esteemed academic journals.
A senior research psychologist for the Head Start Transition and Demonstration Project between 1991 and 1992, Dr. Jones was active with the Research for Educational Reform between 1998 and 2004. He was additionally involved with numerous professional organizations, including the National Association of School Psychologists, the Association of College Unions International, the Association for Behavior Analysis, the Association for Psychological Science and the American College Personnel Association. Within his community, Dr. Jones found success as a member of the Arkansas Care Transitions Coalition-East and a volunteer for Caregiver Advocate and the East Arkansas Area Agency on Aging.
Receiving an undergraduate degree at Rutgers University in 1972 and Master's degree at the University of Kansas in 1975, Dr. Jones is also a certified as a law enforcement instructor through the Arkansas Commission of Law Enforcement Standards and Training since 1982. Likewise, he received a Certificate of Recognition from Arizona State University in 2018 at the 40th Annual Faculty Honors Convocation recognizing his 40 years of service and contributions in academia. Dr. Jones has notably been featured in the first edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
