Dr. LeGrand is a staff physician at the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Center. In medicine for more than 30 years, she now focuses solely on palliative medicine and breast oncology. She was the director of education at the Harry R. Horvitz Center for Palliative Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center, a 23-bed inpatient unit that was built in memory of Harry R. Horvitz, for 10 years. The center conducts important cancer research and educational efforts in pain management, cancer symptom control, nutrition and home care. She also notably maintained her own oncology practice in North Carolina.
Throughout her career, Dr. LeGrand has written extensively, contributing articles to various peer-reviewed journals as author and co-author, and authoring chapters to several books on palliative medicine and supportive care in cancer. She has also served as a frequent lecturer and guest speaker many times both nationally and internationally in her area of expertise.
Dr. LeGrand is an elected fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She is a longtime member of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, for which she served as a board member and nominating committee member. She also led the development of standards for palliative medicine fellowship programs prior to their accreditation by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
Obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, cum laude, from the University of South Carolina, Dr. LeGrand then earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of South Carolina in 1983. She completed an internship at the University of Texas and fellowship at the University of Arizona Cancer Center, and is board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology, hospice and palliative medicine.
Dr. LeGrand is most proud of the impact she has had on her students, many of whom she considers "her kids." She has notably been cited in the 62nd and 63rd editions of Who's Who in America and the 27th edition of Who's Who of American Women.
