An accomplished listee, Dr. Franklin-Griffin celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. In 2014, Dr. Franklin-Griffin was selected as Founding Dean and Professor of the Judge-McRae School of Nursing at Mars Hill University (MHU) in Mars Hill, NC, after serving as Nursing Consultant. Three cohorts of RN to BSN students and the first class of Pre-licensure BSN students have graduated from the new programs. The university is SACS accredited. The BSN degree is accredited by CCNE. An MSN degree with Education focus is on the horizon.

Prior to Mars Hill University, Dr. Franklin-Griffin served 2009-2014 at Winston-Salem State University, holding the positions of Region II Coordinator and Interim Director of the RN to BSN Program. The program boasted 560 RN to BSN students across the state of North Carolina in 20 seated sections and 4 online sections.

Dr. Franklin-Griffin was PTA program grant/development consultant and nurse educator at Surry Community College and served as Hospice Case Manager at Palliative Care and Hospice of Catawba Valley.

From 2004 to 2005, Dr. Franklin-Griffin was the director of program services for North Carolina Community College Systems. Prior to this appointment, she held a position as a freelance contract nurse of education at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College from 2000 to 2004. From 1993 to 2000, she was the dean of nursing and allied health at Rockingham Community College in Wentworth, North Carolina. Additionally, she developed and coordinated the LPN to ADN Weekend/Evening nursing program at Caldwell Community College in Boone, NC from 1991 to 1993.

Acting as a nursing instructor, Dr. Franklin-Griffin worked at Caldwell Community College, from 1988 to 1991 and at United Health Careers Inc. in San Bernardino, CA from 1986 to 1988. From 1981 to 1983, she was a CDC-trained Infection Control Nurse at Charleston Memorial Hospital in Charleston, SC, having developed cardiac rehabilitation and permanent pacemaker implantation programs for the Wayne County Memorial Hospital the year prior. The first professional educational role held was as a Patient Educator at Wayne County Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, NC.

Additionally, Dr. Franklin-Griffin became a consultant and contract grant writer in 2000, and has authored or coauthored over $5 million in successful grant proposals. She spent time on the speakers bureau at Rockingham Community College and on the board of directors at the Rockingham Mental Health Center. Professionally, Dr. Franklin-Griffin was the president of the North Carolina Associate Degree Nursing Program Conference of Directors from 1999 to 2000 as well as a nurse educator elected member of the North Carolina Board of Nursing from 2000 through 2002. More recently, she represented NCCCS on state-wide committees including NCIOM Steering Committee. Dr. Franklin-Griffin was President of Foothills Chapter of HPNA, spoke nationally on Thai, Lao, Hmong cultures, and represented the state on the NC Cultural Diversity Task Force. Her service includes Scholarship/Awards Committee for HPNA and for NCNA, DEIG member, Second Annual Summit HRSA/AACN program planning committee member/panelist/moderator, and NC Council of Higher Education in Nursing officer. In the community, she serves on the Hospice and Palliative Care Board of Advisors, Advisory Council for Judge-McRae School of Nursing & Health Sciences (chair), Madison County Health Coalition, and Madison County Health Assessment team.

Dr. Franklin-Griffin's academic pursuits began at Western Piedmont Community College, where she earned an Associate Degree in nursing in 1971 and was named as the 2005 Alumnus of Year. She continued her studies at East Carolina University, garnering a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She later completed postgraduate coursework at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Dr. Franklin-Griffin then attended Appalachian State University, where she obtained a Master of Arts in 1990. Ultimately, she graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum & Instruction in Higher Education with focus on Leadership from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, NC in 2004. In 2010, she earned the Master's of Science in Nursing degree with a concentration in Education from East Carolina University. Furthermore, she is a registered nurse in North Carolina and has also been registered and practiced in South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, North Dakota, California and Virginia. She has been certified in Hospice and Palliative Care nursing.

Dr. Franklin-Griffin is a published author, having contributed works to such texts as "Fundamentals of Nursing" and "Nursing the Whole Person," "Toward Healthy Aging" and others. She served on the state-wide committee for quarter to semester change in community colleges and on the Nursing Curriculum Improvement Project toward concept-based learning. Additionally, she wrote the "Survival Guide for Directors of Nursing Programs in Community College in North Carolina" in 2002 and the "Caldwell Community College Skillbook." She was the editorial consultant and contributor to the Mosby Nursing Texts and an independent contractor for the North Carolina Community College System manual.

Dr. Franklin-Griffin's civic involvement over the years has been extensive. She was the captain of fundraising for the Civic Center and is a former member of the North Carolina Associate Degree in Nursing Program, where she was a president, on the board of directors, the chairman of legislative advisory council, and liaison of the North Carolina PN educators. Other memberships to her credit include Phi Theta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Theta Tau, Golden Key Honor Society, HPNA, ANA, NCNA, NC Council of Higher Education in Nursing, AACN, DEIG.

In acknowledgement for her many achievements, Dr. Franklin-Griffin was named among the Outstanding Young Women of America in 1987 and was named 2005 Alumnus of the Year by Western Piedmont Community College. She has previously been featured in Who's Who Among Human Services Professionals, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in American Nursing, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.
