With more than 20 years of practiced industry experience to her credit, Ms. Leonard has been serving with the Co-Environmentalist Literacy Committee since 2009 and the North American Association for Environmental Education Diversity Steering Committee since 2008. At the inception of her career, she joined the Golden State Environmental Education Consortium as California coordinator beginning in 1997. Over the years, she also gained valuable expertise through her work with San Diego National History Museum as an environmental educator coordinator, the California Institute for Biodiversity as a project leader, the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve as a project coordinator of high school curriculum projects, and the Western Colorado Alliance for Community Action as director. Though her career has been filled with highlights, she notes that serving as a delegate at the U.S./Spain Joint Conference on Education was a crowning achievement. Additionally, she consulted and coordinated projects for the Tijuana Estuary High School Curriculum Development.
A master environmental educator and certified interpretive guide, Ms. Leonard holds a Bachelor of Science from Florida State University and a Master of Science in curriculum and instruction from San Diego State University. In order to remain abreast of changes in the field, she maintains affiliation with the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education, the North American Association for Environmental Education, the National Association for Interpretation and the Colorado Association of Science Teachers.
In her spare time, Ms. Leonard enjoys contributing to the betterment of her community through Battlement Concerned Citizens, the Congregational Development Institute, the Grand Valley Storytellers and the Educational Testing Service. In light of her outstanding work, she was honored with the Environmental Education Service Award from the National Association for Interpretation and the Outstanding Retiring Environmental Educator Award. Likewise, she received an Outstanding Leadership Award from the California Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education, and won the First Place National Award from the Armed Services YMCA. Notably, she was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women. In the near future, Ms. Leonard intends to experience the continued growth and success of her career.
