Dennis Sivers received a Bachelor of Science in physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He later earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in theoretical physics from the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Sivers began a research career at Argonne National Laboratory where he published seminal calculations in both perturbative and non-perturbative quantum chromodynamics. Dr. Sivers is particularly noted for providing an explanation for single-spin asymmetries in proton scattering experiments. These measurements, which are dependent on the orientation of the proton's spin have come to be known as the Sivers effect.
Serving as an adjunct professor at the University of Michigan and as Director of the Portland Physics Institute, Professor Sivers has continued to be active in physics research. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society.
Dennis Sivers has combined his physics career with successful business interests. He has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Sivers Companies, a real estate development firm, and helped found Maya Cinemas North America, an important chain of movie theaters based in California.
