Dr. Brasic began his career as an assembler at Sargent Welch in Skokie, Illinois in 1966. He worked as a medical intern at the University Medical Center at the University of Alabama in Birmingham from 1972 to 1973. After this opportunity, he held the position of neurology resident at the Los Angeles County and University of Southern California Medical Center from 1973 to 1975 and the position of psychiatry resident at the Barnes Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri from 1975 to 1977.
From 1977 to 1979, Dr. Brasic served as psychiatrist as Chief of the Consult-Liaison Service of the Mental Health Department at the United States Air Force Medical Center at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. Following this appointment, he was a child psychiatry resident at New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City from 1980 to 1982. Dr. Brasic served as a psychiatrist at the Rockland Children's Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, New York from 1981 to 1983 and as assistant attending physician at New York Health and Hospitals in Harlem from 1983 to 1985 where he progressed to associate attending physician from 1985 to 1987.
From 1987 to 1988, Dr. Brasic contributed to the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City as faculty research fellow and instructor in psychiatry, and from 1988 to 1989 he was faculty research fellow and instructor in psychiatry at the New York University Langone Medical Center in New York City. He was clinical assistant attending in psychiatry at Bellevue Hospital Center from 1988 to 2009 and during this time, he also held the position of faculty coordinator of the developmental neurobiology unit in the division of child and adolescent psychiatry at the Bellevue Hospital and the New York University Langone Medical Center from 1989 to 1995.
Dr. Brasic participated in the Consortium for Medical Education in Developmental Disabilities (C-MEDD) through the Institute for Basic Research (IBR) in Developmental Disabilities of the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities of the State of New York as faculty research fellow from 1987 to 1989, program coordinator from 1989 to 1994, and program director in 1995.
Dr. Brasic continued his career with the Bellevue Hospital Center from 1995 to 2001 as the attending psychiatrist for the comprehensive psychiatric emergency program. From 1992 to 1998, he was appointed to the position of research assistant professor of psychiatry at the New York University School of Medicine. He maintained involvement with the New York University School of Medicine as an adjunct assistant professor of psychiatry from 1998 to 2008. Dr. Brasic has been an assistant professor of radiology and radiological science since 2009 and an assistant professor of neurology since 2018 at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland.
Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Brasic earned his Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, and his Doctor of Medicine from Boston University in Massachusetts in 1972. Following this accomplishment, he received his Master of Arts in music composition from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri in 1980 and a Master of Public Health in sociomedical science from Columbia University in New York in 1983. In 1984, he obtained his Master of Science in biostatistics from Columbia University, and in 1987, he acquired his Master of Arts in statistics, also from Columbia University.
Dr. Brasic concluded his education with postgraduate coursework in math from New York University from 1989 to 1992. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in neurology, psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry. He was recertified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in 2013. In 2012 and 2013, he received advanced training in grant writing from the Radiological Society of North America. Dr. Brasic participated in the junior faculty leadership program at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2014.
In addition to his career, Dr. Brasic held a post in the United States Air Force Reserve from 1972 to 1977, rising through the ranks from second lieutenant to major. From 1977 to 1979, he served as a major in the United States Air Force. He was assistant attending psychiatrist at Columbia-Presbyterian division of the New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City and assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University from 1998 to 1999.
From 1999 to 2007, Dr. Brasic was a postdoctoral fellow in nuclear medicine at the Russell H. Morgan department of radiology and radiological science at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, later holding the role of research associate from 2007 to 2009. He is also a member of the Johns Hopkins University Modern Dance Company in Baltimore, Maryland. Additionally, Dr. Brasic is a frequent contributor of articles to professional journals.
Dr. Brasic is a fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He is also a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the American College of Radiology, Mensa, Toastmasters International, the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society, the Society for Neuroscience and the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging. He was presented with an Award from the Missouri Arts Council and the Music Performance Trust Fund in 1977. In 1979, he was decorated with a Commendation Medal by the United States Air Force and received the Department of Psychiatry Faculty Recognition Award from Wright State University. Dr. Brasic was the recipient of the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD) Young Investigator Award as an Essel Investigator from the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation in 2000 and 2002.
The Society for Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging honored Dr. Brasic with participation in the Neuroscience Young Investigator Award Symposium in 2007 and the Brain Imaging Council Young Investigator Award Symposium in 2008. He was presented with the Silver Ace Award from the Las Vegas International Film Festival in Nevada in 2009 and the Sierra Nevada Award from the Mountain Film Festival in Mammoth Lakes, California in 2010. Additionally, he has received numerous awards from Toastmasters International in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014. Dr. Brasic has previously been selected for inclusion in the 23rd edition of Who's Who in the East, the 4th edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America, the 1st edition of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and multiple editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in America.
