Estelle Taylor Honored for Her Work in Higher Education

    WASHINGTON, DC, March 16, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Estelle Taylor has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As a professor emeritus of Howard University, Dr. Estelle Taylor has spent more than 40 years as an English instructor with various higher education institutions and high schools.

Dr. Taylor began her career with the foundation of a strong education. She earned a Bachelor of Science, graduating magna cum laude from Miner Teachers College in 1945, and a Master of Arts from Howard University in 1947. At this point, she was ready to begin her career as an English instructor with Howard University. She would spend the next six years with Howard before transitioning to high school education. Over the next 10 years she worked as a teacher at Langley Junior High School and Eastern Senior High School in Washington D.C. In 1963, Dr. Taylor began working as an instructor with D.C. Teachers College, pursuing her PhD concurrently. By the time she received her advanced degree from Catholic University of America in 1969, she had received a promotion to full professor, which she held until 1976. That year, Dr. Taylor returned to Howard University as a professor, where she remained until her retirement in 1991. During that period, she also took on a number of roles within Howard University, such as chairman of the English department, associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts, and director of an expository writing program.

In her spare time, Dr. Taylor has held a number of prominent roles with organizations such as the Order of Daughters of King Episcopalian Church Diocese, the Education Licensure Committee of D.C., the D.C. Humanities Council and the Centennial Celebration Committee of the Andrew Rankin Chapel at Howard University.

Dr. Taylor has been named as a distinguished alumna of Howard University, and she has also received an alumni award, honoring her for distinguished postgraduate achievement in education and literature. She was named as a Rockefeller/Aspen Institute Fellow in 1978, and a Southern Fellow in 1968.

Dr. Taylor hopes to leave behind a legacy through her students, who will translate their knowledge into further success and achievements of their own.
