With over 30 years of professional experience to his credit, Dr. Balnave is currently retired, having most recently served as an associate professor at the University of Sydney in Australia from 1981 to 2001, having previously been a senior lecturer with the university from 1978 to 1981. Prior to emigrating to Australia, he spent the early years of his career in Northern Ireland as an assistant lecturer, lecturer, senior lecturer and reader at Queen's University Belfast and a scientific officer, senior scientific officer and principal scientific officer at the Department of Agriculture, Northern Ireland in Belfast.
In addition to his primary career responsibilities, Dr. Balnave has also contributed his skills to North Carolina State University as an adjunct professor and to the Agriculture and Food Research Council in England as a member of a select working party and an expert advisor. A research director of the Poultry Research Foundation at the University of Sydney from 1978 to 2001, he was awarded the title of honorary governor of the foundation in 2001. Having authored a number of articles for professional journals, Dr. Balnave was also the chair of the organizing committee for the Australian Poultry Science Symposium from its inception in 1989 to 2001.
Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Balnave pursued an education at Queen's University Belfast, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1963, a Doctor of Philosophy in 1966 and a Doctor of Science in 1983. In an effort to remain up to date with developments in his field, he has maintained affiliation with the Poultry Science Association and the World's Poultry Science Association. Notably, he was presented with the Australian Poultry Award by the World's Poultry Science Association in 1998. In light of all of his accomplishments, Dr. Balnave has previously been featured in Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the World.
