NEW ALBANY, IN, March 26, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Sandra Sue French, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. French celebrates many years of experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With more than 25 years of professional experience, Dr. French has been recognized as professor emeritus of Indiana University Southeast since 2007. Prior to her retirement, she was a professor of sociology from 2000 to 2006, having been an associate professor of sociology from 1987 to 1999 and director of the Master's in Liberal Studies Program from 1997 to 2006. Earlier in her career, she was campus affirmative action officer from 1987 to 1989 and assistant professor of sociology in 1980.
Dr. French began her career as a student at Iowa State University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in 1965. She then joined Tulane University, completing a Master of Arts in 1978. She continued her studies with the university, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in 1980.
A respected voice in her areas of interest, Dr. French has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. She was a member of the National Council on Family Relations, the American Sociological Association, and the Sociologists for Women in Society, where she served as treasurer beginning in 1985. She has also been active with the North Center Sociological Association as a former committee member, the Floyd County Democratic Women's Caucus on the executive committee, the Floyd County Public Library on its board of directors, the Southern Indiana Transitional Shelter on its board of directors, and the YWCA Spouse Abuse Center.
A contributor of articles to professional journals and opinion pages to local newspapers, Dr. French was inspired to delve into sociology because she felt it would utilize her gift for human interaction and her desire to see how diverse groups of people interacted with one another. As a professor, she promoted active learning instead of merely using a textbook for teaching. Recalling her career highlights, she cites that discovering that women entering male-dominated fields did not cause men to lose money or prestige was a turning point in her career, and she also enjoyed witnessing students become enlightened by her lessons.
Throughout her career, Dr. French has been recognized for her achievements. She has received awards and accolades for her contributions and accomplishments. She has also been featured in numerous honors publications, including the 22nd edition of Who's Who in the Midwest.
