Dr. Alexander McCalla has been awarded the title Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Davis.

Supported by decades of practiced educational experience, Dr. McCalla has been awarded the title Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Davis, where he was originally appointed assistant professor and latter promoted to associate and full professor. While still an associate professor, he was appointed Dean of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and Associate Director of the California Agricultural Experiment Station. At the time of that appointment, he was only 32 years old. It was unheard of at that time for someone so young to become a dean in the University of California. He subsequently was appointed the founding dean of the Graduate School of Administration. While a professor he served 7 years as Chair of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and later after reaching emeritus status he found success through an executive role at the World Bank as Director Agriculture and Natural Resources/Rural Development. After retiring from the World Bank, he continued in consulting roles for the Bank, The National Academy of Science, the Department Agriculture and Agrifood for the Government of Canada, World Vision and the Gates Foundation among others.
An expert in his field, Dr. McCalla earned a Bachelor of Science (Agriculture) with high distinction and a Master of Arts from the University of Alberta and a PhD from the University of Minnesota. He later was awarded honorary Doctor of Science degrees (DSc) by McGill University, Georgian State Agrarian University and the University of Alberta.
Throughout his career, Dr. McCalla has been chosen to serve in governance roles including: serving 5 years as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the CGIAR Center C1MMYT -Centro Internacional de Mejoramiento de Maize y Trigo (International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center in Mexico); 12 years on the Board of Directors of the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St Louis and eight years on the Board of the National Center for Food and Agricultural Policy in Washington DC.
In order to keep abreast of changes in his professional field he has been a lifetime member of his professional associations-the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association (AAEA); the Western Agricultural Economics Association and the Canadian Agricultural Economics Society and has been honored by each of them by being elected a Fellow. The AAEA recognized his exceptional work by giving him both their Quality of Research Discovery award and their Quality of Communication award.
Working with professional colleagues, Dr. McCalla has coauthored several books: "Imperfect Markets in Agricultural Trade"; "Agricultural Policies and World Markets"; and "Grain Export Cartels". For his outstanding work in the field, he was selected for inclusion in the 47th and 48th editions of Who's Who in America.
