WAYMART, PA, March 26, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Elise Ann Hernandez with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Hernandez celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Hernandez is a retired nurse and U.S. Air Force veteran who began her career in 1966 as a staff nurse in the emergency room and medical-surgical unit at Scranton State General Hospital in Pennsylvania. Commissioned two years later as a second lieutenant in the Nurse Corps of the U.S. Air Force, she later advanced to lieutenant colonel in 1989. While serving in the military, Ms. Hernandez held various roles, including staff nurse in Japan, flight nurse in Illinois and North Carolina and Europe, and charge nurse in the orthopedic ward of the U.S. Air Force Medical Center at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. In more recent years, she served as an emergency room staff nurse and trauma nurse specialist at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL, office nurse and clinical researcher for Dr. Dwyer and Dr. Hymowitz at Larchmont Medical Center in Mount Laurel, NJ, and staff nurse at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly, NJ. She also served several years as a substitute nurse at the Hainesport School in New Jersey. She officially retired in 2008.
One of the most memorable and honorable moments in Ms. Hernandez's career occurred while working overseas caring for a wounded Vietnam soldier in Japan. Losing one of his legs in battle, he gave her his combat boots to keep. She still has those boots in her home.
For her work in nursing, Ms. Hernandez has been active as a member of the Emergency Nurses Association, the Association of Physicians Office Nurses and the Alumnae Association of Scranton State Hospital School of Nurses. She is also a longtime member of the Retired Air Force Association and the Retired Air Force Flight Nurse Association. She is currently finance officer in the local American Legion.
Since she was just a little girl, Ms. Hernandez knew that she wanted to work in a field that would enable her to help others. Once she was in high school, she became involved with the Future Nurses of America, which made her eager to pursue a career in health care. Receiving a Diploma in Nursing from Scranton State General Hospital in 1966, she later earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at McKendree University in 1981. She is a registered nurse in Pennsylvania, New York, South Carolina, Illinois, North Carolina, Michigan and Indiana. She is also a certified trauma nurse specialist in Illinois. She also attended Flight Nurse course and Battlefield Nursing courses in the U.S. Air Force.
Ms. Hernandez has notably been cited in the fourth and fifth editions of Who's Who in American Nursing, the 22nd edition of Who's Who in the Midwest and the third edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America. Married to George Hernandez, Ms. Hernandez is the proud mother of two children and grandmother of two grandchildren.
