Ms. Rawie-Rook is a writer and producer who founded and has been serving as president of R2 Group Productions since 1990. Known for her two PBS series, "Achieving" and "Focus," "Achieving" won an Emmy Award and was an ACE and PBS nominee.
Commencing her career in the industry as a syndicated columnist at the 'Environmental Forum" in 1971, Ms. Rawie-Rook first became a director of video at the International Association of Business Communicators in 1982. Returning to Los Angeles in 1983, she became director of programming at Westinghouse Cable till 1985. She also oversaw the build and managed the Group W Productions facility, where she won the Westinghouse You Make the Difference Award. She then served as manager of development at Embassy/Nelson Home Entertainment from 1985 to 1987. She became partner at Real Magic for two years between 1987 and 1989, during which time she garnered co-sponsorships for several projects including "The Last Emperor" for Nelson Entertainment, before serving as a producer, writer and partner at BrantHol Productions. During the early 1990's, Ms. Rawie-Rook was also involved as a member of the International TV Awards Jury.
Throughout her career, Ms. Rawie-Rook was the associate director of two off-Broadway plays, "Arms and the Man" in 1967 and "The Man Who Came to Dinner" in 1981. She was the Co-Producer/Writer of the NBC pilot "Christmas Comes to Silverton" between 1990 and 1993, and the CNN pilot "Clever Encounters" in 1991. Ms. Rawie-Rook also had the opportunity to serve as associate producer of the FOX Latin American Billboard Music Awards in 1998. Several years later, in 2003, she was a playwright for Theatre 40 Writer's Workshop of "Anniversary for Three," and in 2005, produced the film "Somewhere in Between". A widow of producer/writer Timothy Rook, in 2017, she has been producing two documentaries, in progress; and real estate development in Utah and California.
Ms. Rawie-Rook has been a member and was director of seminars on women's issues for Women in Film, in the 80's. She is also a longtime member of the International Documentary Association and the Independent Features Project among other organizations. Ms. Rawie-Rook has served on the University of California Irvine's co-founding advisory board for entertainment curriculum; the executive board for the Long Beach Museum of Art, and the California University Art Museum's board of directors. In addition, she served as a board member and board secretary for Counseling4Kids, and was a board member/editor for the League of Women Voters in Santa Monica, CA.
Born in Long Beach, CA, to Navy Cross Recipient/fighter pilot Captain Wilmer Ernest and Margaret Jane Towle Rawie, Ms. Rawie-Rook moved 22 times before reaching the age of 18; one of those move-sites: Japan for two years. Graduating from George Washington High School in Alexandria, VA, she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Loyola Marymount University and completed postgraduate work in visual arts/communications at the University of California San Diego in the mid-70's. She is the proud mother of two daughters: Daryn Simons, a producer/talent manager for CEG, and Dawn Reinard, a design executive for ELB Education.
