Employed by E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company for the duration of his career, he was initially hired by the famous corporation in 1951. Working in various capacities during his tenure, he was promoted to the post of vice president in charge of the corporate engineering department in 1984, holding the role until his retirement in 1989. He was chairman of the construction committee of the Business Roundtable and chairman of the Task Force on Construction Industry Cost-Effectiveness Project, which he cites as an absolute career highlight. In this position, Mr. Brown believes he contributed greatly to the organization's cause, creating a substantial impact upon everyone involved. Mr. Brown had earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from the University of Arkansas in 1951.
Demonstrating versatility in his profession, he authored "Report on Problems of the United States Construction Industry" between 1978 and 1981, and he previously completed service in the United States Army between 1946 and 1947. In an effort to remain aware of developments in his community, Mr. Brown also maintained affiliation with numerous organizations, including the Kennett Square Country Club of Pennsylvania, the Wilmington Country Club, the DuPont Country Club of Wilmington, the Club at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, AZ, and Theta Tau.
Inspired by his father's sense of integrity, awareness of duty and demand for high performance, Mr. Brown was also influenced by his mother, as both of his parents' guidance dramatically formed his sense of self and work ethic early on in his life. In addition, he was encouraged by the values of his former manager at DuPont, Robert K. Mason, whose effective and heartfelt methods of communication taught him to revolutionize his modalities of thinking. Mr. Brown attributes his profound success to the conpetant individuals with whom he surrounded himself, as well as having an ounce of luck and a supportive family.
As a testament to his success, Mr. Brown was the recipient of the Construction Industry Man of the Year Award from Engineering News Record in 1982. Impressively, he was also listed in the 25th edition of Who's Who in the East and the 26th edition of Who's Who in Finance and Industry, as well as multiple editions of Who's Who in America. Married to Marjorie Ann Fischer since 1951, he has three children and three grandchildren, one who was a casualty of the Iraq War. In his spare time, Mr. Brown enjoys traveling and spending valuable time with friends and family.
