Lois Blackwood received The Presidential Award for Excellence in Elementary Mathematics Teaching by the State of Colorado.

Ms. Blackwood was an elementary school teacher and consultant for 40 years. Retiring from classroom teaching in 2007 from Saint Vrain Valley Schools in Longmont, CO, she continued as a teachers' consultant through 2011. She was first hired by the district in 1977. During much of her tenure, Ms. Blackwood served as a presenter for in-services and symposia. She previously taught for the Department of Defense Schools in Frankfurt, Germany, between 1973 and 1976, Clarksville Public Schools in Tennessee in 1973, and Forest Grove Public Schools in Oregon between 1971 and 1972.
Consulting in mathematics for a variety of schools and organizations throughout her career, Ms. Blackwood first consulted for Brush Public Schools in 1985. She later presented courses and consulted for the following districts through 2011: Westminster Elementary School, Brighton Public Schools, Burlington, Colorado Elementary School, Moffat County School District, Saint Vrain Valley Elementary Schools for Mathematics, and Platteville Elementary School. She also presented for the 1987 University of Northern Colorado Symposium; and for numerous Greater San Diego Mathematics Conferences between 1992 and 1999, as well as the Council of Mathematics Teachers in California's Southern Section between 1992 and 1998; the Colorado Council for Teachers of Mathematics between 1992-1998; and the University of Colorado Rural Mathematics Connections Program between 1992 and 1994. During her career, Ms. Blackwood was a longstanding member of the National Education Association, the Colorado Education Association and the Saint Vrain Valley Teachers Association.
Honored for her career in education, Ms. Blackwood received several teaching awards. In 1994, she received The Presidential Award for Excellence in Elementary Mathematics Teaching by the State of Colorado. She was also recognized with The Outstanding Elementary Mathematics Teacher Award for District IV by the Colorado Council of Teachers of Mathematics in 1996; and The Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award by the Longmont Chamber of Commerce in 1992. Ms. Blackwood was also the 1992 runner-up for the Colorado Teacher of the Year Award. Furthermore, she received a Sustained Superior Service Award from the U.S. Army in Frankfurt in 1975 and has been showcased in more than 20 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America. She has notably held a Bachelor of Arts from Pacific University since 1971 and a Master of Arts from the University of Colorado since 1997.
