Ottie Reno Celebrated for a Life in the Law

Judge Reno made good on a childhood dream and became a successful lawyer and judge

One of the highlights of his entire career was when he traveled to South Africa to represent the United States in the horseshoe championship sister game Jukskei.

LUCASVILLE, OH, April 01, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ottie Reno has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

What started out as a simple childhood dream manifested itself into a prominent and prolific career in the field of law for The Honorable Judge Ottie Reno, who has nearly six decades of industry experience under his belt.

At just five years old, Ottie Reno, a bright-eyed, ambitious child who grew up in a very poor household, knew what he wanted to do for a living. His father had hired a lawyer regarding a land matter, and when the lawyer showed up, in a big, shiny, black Buick and a suit and tie, he was immediately impressed. However, it wasn't his presentation that Judge Reno was most drawn to, but the way in which the lawyer held his father's attention and respect. The young child noticed that while the lawyer was speaking with his father, his father hung on his every word and continuously said, "Yes, sir." Judge Reno later learned that the man was both a judge and a lawyer, and he quickly became adamant to model his career after him.

Although his family was poor and despite his belief that he would never be able to afford law school, Judge Reno pushed himself to excel academically. He worked hard, never missed a day of school, and eventually graduated as valedictorian of his high school class. With nothing on him but $45 of borrowed money, Judge Reno went off to Franklin University in Ohio. There, he obtained an associate's degree in business administration in 1949, and, in 1953, a bachelor's degree in law, admitting him to practice in the state of Ohio. Judge Reno's ambition never wavered even after he was out of school and in the field either, later acquiring a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Capital University in 1966 and graduating from the College of Juvenile Justice at the University of Nevada in 1973.

Right out of law school, at 23 years old, Judge Reno was hired by a judge to draft papers, deeds, subdivisions, and mortgages for land he had purchased previously in 1935. The judge also helped him establish his own practice later in his career in 1979, serving as both a mentor and a close friend for decades until he passed away. Judge Reno started his career as a recorder in Pike County, Ohio, in 1957, where he worked for 16 years until 1973. From 1973 to 1979, he served as a common pleas judge in the probate, and juvenile division in Pike County, and since 1979, he has run a successful private practice.

In addition to law, Judge Reno has also maintained an active political career, serving as a delegate in the Democratic National Convention for many years, as well as being the Democratic candidate for the 88th Ohio District in the Ohio House of Representatives in 1992. He was the Democratic candidate for the Sixth District in the Ohio House of Representatives earlier in his life in 1966.

Judge Reno, an affiliate of the Pike County Bar Association, American Legion, and the National Council of Juvenile Court Judges, was recognized for his accomplishments with a Distinguished Service Award by the Ohio Youth Commission 1974 and has been the recipient of six Outstanding Service awards from the Ohio Supreme Court. He has authored several books, including "Reno and Apsaalooka Survive Custer" in 1996, "Ohio Versus Smith, Murder" in 1990, and three on the subject of horseshoe pitching, his cherished hobby and passion, for which he holds a world record for 59 years of attending the World Horseshoe Pitching Championship. He won the world title for his class twice and is the recipient of numerous accolades for excellence in the sport, including recognitions from the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association and the Ohio Horseshoe Pitchers Association in 1978, the Alabama Horseshoe Pitchers Association in 1977, and being inducted into the Ohio Senior Olympics Hall of Fame.

One of the highlights of his entire career was when he traveled to South Africa to represent the United States in the horseshoe championship sister game Jukskei. His visit launched an annual exchange between the two countries, in which United States players are sent to Africa, and vice versa, to compete in the horseshoe championship and Jukskei.

The most satisfying achievement in Judge Reno's career, however, has been making good on his boyhood dream of becoming a lawyer and judge, defying the odds of his impoverished upbringing and following his ambition to the end. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication to his field and community service.
