With 35 years of professional experience to his credit, Dr. Scott holds the title of professor emeritus with Cornell University, where he previously served as a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellow from 1965 to 1968, assistant and associate professor of veterinary microbiology between 1968 and 1979, and professor of microbiology and immunology from 1979 to 1996. Earlier in his career, he gained valuable expertise as a veterinarian through the Rutland Veterinary Clinic in Vermont in 1962, holding the position for two years.
Over the years, Dr. Scott also conducted research in the field through the Plum Island Animal Disease Center with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In addition, he worked as director of the Cornell Feline Health Center, which he founded in 1974, and sat on the veterinary medical advisory committee of the Center for Veterinary Medicine at the Food and Drug Administration in Rockville, MD. A frequent consultant and researcher in the field, he also sat on the board of comparative virology with the World Health Organization and Food and Agriculture Organization.
An expert in his field, Dr. Scott holds a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the University of Massachusetts, and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Doctor of Philosophy in virology from the prestigious Cornell University. To remain abreast of changes in the field, he maintains affiliation with the Academy of Feline Practice, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists, the American Society of Virology, the Southern Tier Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Animal Hospital Association. In his spare time, he contributed his time to his community through the Boy Scouts of America, the Christian Veterinary Fellowship and the Bethel Grove Bible Church.
With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, Dr. Scott co-authored a number of books, including "Infectious Diseases in Domestic Animals" in 1988 and "Infectious Diseases" in 1986, as well as authored "Clifton William Scott and Mildred Evelyn Broadford Scott of Ashfield, Massachusetts: Ancestors, Descendants, and New England Heritage" in 2004. In light of his outstanding work, Dr. Scott earned multiple grants through the National Institutes of Health, has been named a National Academies Practice Distinguished Scholar in Veterinary Medicine every year since 1991, and earned features in the 49th through 54th editions of Who's Who in America. In addition, he received the Carnation Award from the American Animal Hospital Association, as well as the Research Award from the American Association of Feline Practitioners.
Married to Lois Ellen Williams since 1957, Dr. Scott has three children, 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf, archery and basketball, as well as gardening. Looking toward the future, he intends to continue enjoying his retirement as professor emeritus.
