Dr. Solak is an applied mathematician, SAS programmer and current senior manager of statistical programming at Pacira BioSciences, Inc. in Parsippany, NJ. Hired by the organization in 2017, he previously spent one year as the manager of statistical programming at Sandoz/Novartis in Princeton, NJ, and five years as the principal statistical programmer at Vertex in Boston, MA. He held several other roles during his 21 years in the field, including for such companies as AT&T, Bristol Myers-Squibb, Merck and J&J. Furthermore, Dr. Solak spent 17 years in academia, beginning as an assistant professor in his home country at the Institute of Electrical Engineering in Warsaw, Poland, between 1980 and 1986. He also held appointments at Cleveland State University and the University of Durban-Westville in South Africa.
Throughout his career, Dr. Solak has contributed to linear system theory, robust stability, neural networks, outlier detection and evaluation, and SAS programming. He has notably been recognized for an innovative computational, one of several known, method that he created to solve polynomial matrix equations, PX+RY=W, called Solak's Method.
During his years as a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Dr. Solak published several papers in the "IEEE Trans Automatic Control," "IEEE Transactions Neural Networks," "International Journal of Control" and "Multidimensional Systems and Signal Processing." He also co-authored a small manual on statistical outliers for lab personnel and has presented research results at American Control, Control and Decision Conferences, and PharmaSug, among other conferences.
A Fulbright Scholar at Texas A&M University between 1986 and 1987, Dr. Solak was also the recipient of a Best Paper of the Session "Robust and Adaptive Control: Parallel and Complementary Approaches" Award for his article "A Note on Robust G-Stability" at the American Control Conference in 1990. He received a Research Award from the South African Foundation for Research Development in 1992 and was cited in the 16th edition of Who's Who in the World in 1999.
Attending a high school in Poland that offered a very competitive mathematics program, Dr. Solak excelled in the subject and later decided to study it in college. Attending Warsaw University of Technology, he received both a Master of Science in 1977 and Doctor of Philosophy in 1981. He also since became a licensed professional engineer in the Republic of South Africa in 1993. Married to his wife Grazyna with two children, Dr. Solak enjoys swimming, playing bridge, tennis and reading. He also loves to travel whenever possible.
