Backed by 65 years of professional excellence, Ms. Fisch has been serving as a juror and curator for Craft Exhibitions since 1977 and as a workshop leader in Textile Techniques in Metal since 1972. She was inspired to pursue a career in the arts because of her love of the field. She spent a significant amount of time at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, where her favorite exhibit was the Egyptian jewelry collection. At the inception of her academiccareer in the mid-1950s, she served as an instructor at Wheaton College.
Over the years, Ms. Fisch gained valuable teaching expertise through Skidmore College as an instructor, San Diego State University as a longtime professor of art, Haystack Mountain School of Crafts as a summer school instructor, and Penland School as a summer school instructor. In a career filled with highlights, she is especially proud of her solo show in Copenhagen at the Danish Design Museum and at the American Craft Museum in NYC in 1968 and 2003 and publishing "Textile Techniques in Metal" in 1975 and 1995, as well as "Crochet Wire Jewelry" in 2006.
An expert in her field, Ms. Fisch holds a Bachelor of Science in art from Skidmore College, a Master of Arts in art from the University of Illinois, and an honorary doctorate from Skidmore College. She also pursued postgraduate studies at Kunsthaandvaerkerskolen in Copenhagen, Denmark. In order to remain abreast of changes in the field, she maintains affiliation with the American Craft Council and the Society of North America Goldsmiths, where she served as president from 1982 to 1985. Throughout her career, she has also exhibited her work at a number of exhibitions around the world including the Pasadena Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Uruguay and the American Craft Museum in NYC. She contributes to her community through the World Craft Council and the United States National Committee for UNESCO.
In light of her professional excellence, Ms. Fisch earned a Fulbright Teaching Award to Austria from the United States State Department, a fellowship through the National Endowment for the Arts, and features in Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who of American Women. Looking ahead, Ms. Fisch intends to continue her career as a studio artist in jewelry.
