An educated and qualified individual in his profession, Mr. Le Vine obtained both a Bachelor of Engineering Science in Chemical Engineering in 1956, and a Master of Science in Engineering in 1958 from the John Hopkins University. Shortly thereafter, he began his career with Exxon Research and Engineering Company, a subsidiary of Exxon Mobil Corporation, in 1959. Excelling with the company for 39 years, he was the manager of science and strategy for said corporation, in Dallas, TX, from 1990 to his retirement in 1998. Prior to this, he held the roles of director, general manager, and senior director for various departments within Exxon Mobil, including the Worldwide Environmental Affairs Department, the Corporate Science Laboratories, the Baytown Texas Research Center, the Fuels Research Laboratory, and the Gasoline and Lubes Processes Engineering Division, among others. During this time, Mr. Le Vine also acquired certifications in risk analysis of environmental health from Harvard University in 1985, science and policy of global change from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in circa 1980, and the Executive Management Program from the Pennsylvania State University in 1975.
Throughout his career, Mr. Le Vine's strong work ethic was responsible for numerous impressive achievements. His expertise has led research on automotive emissions control catalyst systems, evaporative loss control devices, exhaust recycle systems for NOx control, catalytic coal gasification, donor solvent coal liquefaction and the direct synthesis of hydrocarbon liquids from CO/H2. In recognition of said accomplishments, Mr. Le Vine was presented with multiple honors in research, engineering, and chemistry including Sigma Xi, Tau Beta Pi, and Phi Lambda Upsilon, respectively.
Apart from his primary career responsibilities, Mr. Le Vine has provided his skills and resources as the chairman of the Symposium on Critical Issues in the Economics of Climate Change in Paris, France, the International Petroleum Industry Global Climate Change Symposium in Rome, and the Rene Dubos International Forum on Managing Hazardous Materials in New York, NY. Additionally, Mr. Le Vine has served as a member on the U. S. National Air Pollution Research Advisory Committee, the Texas Energy and Natural Resources Advisory Council and the energy and technology assessment committee for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). In 1984, Mr. Le Vine was a representative at the United Nations industry-sponsored conference in Versailles, France, which focused on environmental management. He served as the Chairman, Chief Officer of the International Petroleum Industry Conservation Association (London, England).
Furthermore, Mr. Le Vine maintains affiliation with a number of professional organizations. A fellow of the American Institute of Chemists, he has held memberships with American Chemical Society, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Society of Automotive Engineers, and the American Petroleum Institute. Moreover, Mr. Le Vine has been associated with the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the New York Academy of Sciences.
