Dr. Mostillo retired in 2014 as the chair and director of the Cancer Association of America in Nutley after 27 years in this role. In previously years, he was a senior scientist of drug regulatory affairs at F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG in Nutley between 1979 and 1985 and a research fellow at Princeton University between 1972 and 1978. Entering the field of biochemistry out of a desire to solve and eliminate certain diseases, much of his research focused on molecular transport systems in E. coli as general models for drug delivery into cells. Dr. Mostillo was notably responsible for the concept of attaching pharmaceutical drugs, including chemotherapeutic agents, to certain molecular entities, which could then be transported into target cells, to achieve the desired therapeutic effect.
Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. Mostillo holds membership with the American Chemical Society, the New York Academy of Science, the American Marketing Association and the American Management Association in order to keep abreast of developments in his field. He also belongs to the Vietnam Veterans of America and the American Legion. A retired United States Navy veteran, Dr. Mostillo served in Vietnam and completed three tours of duty between 1962 and 1966.
An elected member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, Dr. Mostillo was the recipient of a National Institutes of Health fellowship between 1972 and 1978 and has been cited in dozens of editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World. Notably, he has held a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry, cum laude, from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, since 1972. Dr. Mostillo later earned a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in biochemistry from Princeton University in 1974 to 1978, respectively.
