Dr. Moncrief is a longtime private practice physician since 1968 who has also been serving as president of Jack Moncrief Group, P.A., since 1997. Specializing primarily in Nephrology and Internal Medicine, he has been in the field for more than 55 years. He formerly served as the president and co-director of the Moncrief-Popovich Research Institute from 1977 to 1997 and was the director of Internal Medicine at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, TX, from 1971 to 1974. He also served as an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and the State University of New York from 1973 to 1983. Outside of his career in practice of medicine, between 1985 and 1996, Dr. Moncrief was the owner and director of the Moncrief Mountain Ranch in Lake City, CO, a mountain summer camp for children with kidney failure, those requiring chronic dialysis, and kidney transplants.

Holding several patents in his field, including one on Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD), Dr. Moncrief also authored the 2018 book "Development Application Expansion and History of Continuous Peritoneal Dialysis." One of the stories in his book includes that of a now 38-year old teacher of Special Education. Born without any kidney tissue, Dr. Moncrief did the first dialysis treatment of a newborn.

Dr. Moncrief is an elected Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He is also a longtime member of the American Medical Association, the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs, the American Board of Internal Medicine and Alpha Omega Alpha, and he has been a member of the National Institutes of Health steering committee. In 1985, Dr. Moncrief served as co-chairman of the governor's committee to facilitate organ transplantation in the state of Texas.

Named Texas Rehabilitation Association Physician of the Year for 1979-1980, Dr. Moncrief was also the recipient of a Dialysis Pioneering Award through the National Kidney Foundation in 1982 and received a Distinguished Physician Award from the Austin Diagnostic Clinic in 1983. He has been included in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.

Dr. Moncrief completed a Bachelor of Science at Lamar State College in Beaumont, Texas 1959, followed by a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch in 1962. He then completed an internship at the Detroit Receiving Hospital, his residency work in internal medicine at the University of Texas at Galveston, and a fellowship in Nephrology at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Nephrology. Dr. Moncrief notably served as a medical officer in the U.S. Air Force between 1963 and 1965. Born in Beaumont, TX, Dr. Moncrief later married and had two children. In his free time, he loves playing the saxophone.
