After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania in 1973, Dr. Jacoby attended the University of California, Berkeley, and earned a Doctor of Philosophy in economics in 1981. During this time, he began his career as a distinguished research professor of management, history and public affairs with the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1980. A published author, his written works include "Employing Bureaucracy," "Modern Manors" and "The Embedded Corporation." He has also contributed as an editor for the publications "Masters to Managers" and "Workers of Nations," as well as serving as a co-editor for the Comparative Labor Law and Policy Journal.
Dr. Jacoby maintains affiliation with the Labor and Employment Relations Association, the National Academy of Social Insurance, and the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics. As a testament to his accomplishments in the field, he has been the recipient of the Nevins Prize from the Economic History Association, the Terry Award from the Academy of Management, and the Taft Prize in Labor History. Dr. Jacoby was presented with fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities in 1989, the Japan Foundation in 2000, and the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation in 2009.
In a career filled with accomplishments, Dr. Jacoby is particularly proud of seeing the progress of his past students. He was previously selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in the West. Dr. Jacoby has been married to his wife Susan Bartholomew since 1984 and has two children, Alexander and Margaret.
