A retired attorney, Mr. Ferguson practiced law for 35 years in Birmingham, AL. First hired as an associate at Spain, Gillon, Riley, Tate & Etheredge in 1973, he worked diligently to prove himself, making partner and remaining with the firm for seven years. He then accepted an opportunity to serve as partner for a different firm, Dominick, Fletcher, Yeilding, Wood & Lloyd, P.A., between 1980 and 1998 before working in the same capacity for Ferguson, Frost & Dodson LLP, where he remained until retirement in 2008.
Specializing in insurance law and product liability, Mr. Ferguson has always been known by his peers as a man of his word. Standing up for the truth even when it hurt, his integrity is something of which he is very proud, something he surely got from his father. Mr. Ferguson is a longstanding member of several professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, the Alabama Bar Association, the Tennessee Bar Association, the Birmingham Bar Association and the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association. He is also a member and past president of the Birmingham Ole Mississippi Alumni Club and the Oxmoor Rotary Club. Locally involved, Mr. Ferguson was vice-chairman of deacons and trustee of the Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, AL.
An AV-Rated attorney through Martindale Hubbell, Mr. Ferguson has also been highlighted in several editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Law. Growing up in a small town with a population of approximately 2,000 people, Mr. Ferguson was inspired by the three attorneys who worked in his community. Deciding as a young man that he wanted to someday become an attorney and follow in their footsteps, he went on and acquired a Bachelor of Arts in public administration from the University of Mississippi in 1960, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Samford University in 1973. He has since been admitted to practice law by the Alabama and Tennessee Bar Associations, as well as before the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits of the U.S. Court of Appeals, the Northern, Southern and Middle Districts of the U.S. District Court of Alabama, and the U.S. Tax Court. He notably served in the Mississippi and Tennessee National Guard between 1955 and 1963.
Married to Jamie Frances Flemming since 1965, Mr. Ferguson has three children and six grandchildren. Since retiring, Mr. Ferguson has focused more of his time enjoying sports, hunting and fishing.
