Well-known public historian Kim Burdick has served as the Resident Manager of the historic Hale Byrnes House (www.halebyrnes.org) since June 2008. Specializing in the American Revolutionary War, Kim is a frequent contributor to the Journal of the American Revolution, and also founded the American Revolution Round Table of Northern Delaware.
She is immediate past president (April 2018-April 2019) of the National Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route Association (Yorktown Campaign Route of 1781), having previously served from 1999-2010 as both the Project Director and National President of this 9-state, DC and France organization. On Monday, 30 March 2009, Public Law 111-11, the Omnibus Public Land Management Act. Sec. 5204 was passed, designating the Washington-Rochambeau National Historic Trail. ). Mrs. Burdick was subsequently awarded Les Palmes Académiques at Yorktown Days 2009 by Ambassador Pierre Vimont and Consul General Michel Schaffhauser.
From January 2004 – May 2017, Kim taught American History 111 and 112 at Wilmington Campus DelTech, leaving to become Executive Director of People to People Delaware. Prior to these appointments she served for ten years as House-Senate Liaison at the Delaware General Assembly, staffing the Education, Natural Resources, and International Trade Committees. In 1994 she was selected as Delaware's Council of State Governments Toll Fellow.
A graduate of State University of New York at Cortland, she also attended l'Université de Neuchâtel, Switzerland where she was certified in French. She also holds a DALF Diplôme d'études en langue française (English: Diploma in French Language Studies), a certification of French-language abilities for non-native speakers of French administered by the International Centre for French Studies (Centre international d'études pédagogiques, or CIEP) . She continued her education at Cooperstown Graduate Programs, where she received an MA in American Folk Culture and Museum Studies, and an MPA from the College of Urban Affairs (now called the Biden School of Public Policy ) at the University of Delaware.
A respected voice in her areas of interest, Mrs. Burdick has long been an active leader in her community having served on the Board of the World Trade Center Delaware and twice on the Board of People to People Delaware. She was Project Director for the Delaware Memorial at Gettysburg; is an Advisor Emerita of the National Trust for Historic Preservation; and also past president of the Delaware Art Museum Council and the Delaware Humanities Forum.
Throughout her career, Kim has received many honors and awards. In 2016 she was named Delaware Press Association's Communicator of Achievement and her book "Revolutionary Delaware: Independence in the First State," published by History Press, won first place in DPA's history category and second place in the National Press Women's competition. She was also acknowledged by the State of Delaware in that year for her advocacy and leadership in the field of historic preservation.
