With over 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Fleming retired as the president of Global Aerospace, LLC in Boulder in 2011 and has been working as a consultant and self-employed novelist since then. Prior to these roles, he was a program manager with the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research from 2001 to 2004 and was involved with the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration in Boulder from 1993 to 2001. Earlier in his career, Dr. Fleming cultivated his skills through positions with the National Center for Atmospheric Research, Tycho Technology, Inc., and the International Tropical Ocean and Global Atmosphere Project Office, among other organizations.
Earning a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Creighton University in Omaha, NE, in 1963, Dr. Fleming was commissioned as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force that same year. Advancing through the grades to captain by 1972, he was a research scientist at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska from 1963 to 1967 and a science liaison to the National Weather Service in Suitland, MD, from 1970 to 1972. During this time, Dr. Fleming pursued further education at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he obtained a Master of Science in 1968 and a Doctor of Philosophy in atmospheric science in 1970.
A regular contributor of articles to professional journals, Dr. Fleming authored "FALSE ALARM: The History of the Rise and Fall of the Carbon Dioxide Theory of Climate Change," released in 2019. This seminal publication will play a major role in determining the future use of fossil fuel. An elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, he maintains affiliation with a number of professional organizations in an effort to remain up to date with developments in his field. The chair of the probability and statistics committee for the American Meteorological Society from 1976 to 1977, Dr. Fleming holds further membership with the American Geophysical Union, where he served as secretary of the atmospheric science section from 1984 to 1986.
For excellence in his career, Dr. Fleming has been the recipient of multiple honors and accolades over the years. Notably, he was presented with a Gold Medal Award from the United States Department of Commerce in 1980. Dr. Fleming also holds several patents in his field, including an aerial water vapor sensor flying on several commercial airlines.
