A graduate of Oregon State University, Mr. Cory earned a Bachelor of Science in forestry in 1958 and Bachelor of Science in civil engineering in 1964. The following year, he received a Master of Science in civil engineering from Stanford University. Subsequently, he began his career as an assistant projects manager with Ch2m Hill, Inc., in Boise, ID, in 1965, further progressing to an environmental manager for the Boise Cascade Corporation between 1965 and 1978. He continued his career with Boise Cascade Corporation, serving as a director of state government affairs before becoming the director of the industrial group with JUB Engineers in Boise between 1978 and 1984.
Mr. Cory excelled as the chief engineer of Anchorage Water and Wastewater in Alaska, as well as the director of public works for the City of Caldwell, ID, from 1984 to 1992. He served as the planning and assessment leader for the Alexandria Wastewater Project with Chemonics International from 1998 until his retirement in 1999. In addition, from 1995 to 1998, he served as the administrator of the Idaho Division of Environmental Quality, which he cites as a career highlight. Prior to his career, Mr. Cory served in the United States Air Force, achieving the rank of captain from 1958 to 1962.
Civically, Mr. Cory worked as a precinct committee member and the region chair for the Idaho Representative Committee in Boise between 1968 and 1977. As a registered professional engineer for the state of Idaho, the state of Oregon, and the state of Alaska, Mr. Cory is a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers. In addition, he is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Idaho Society of Professional Engineers, where he served as president from 1976 to 1977.
Additionally, Mr. Cory maintained relationships with the Association of Air Pollution Control Agencies and the Idaho Association of Commerce and Industry. As a testament to his success, Mr. Cory was the recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal for his service in the military, as well as the Young Engineer of Year Award from the Idaho Society of Professional Engineers in 1971.
Married to Roberta Ruth Matthews since 1959, Mr. Cory has two children, Steven and Susan, and two grandchildren, Adriana and Heather. Outside of his primary career responsibilities, he enjoys hunting, fishing and shooting.
