Dr. Benjamin Honigman is a diplomate and fellow of the American Board of Emergency Medicine.

Retired from medicine since 2018, Dr. Honigman is a prominent emergency physician who most recently served as the chief of emergency medicine and the director of the emergency department at the Anschutz Medical Campus at the University of Colorado from 1985 to 2012. From 2012 until 2018 he was associate dean for Clinical Outreach at the School of Medicine. He also was the founding director of the Altitude Research Center from 2002 to 2010. Prior to these appointments, he was the editor-in-chief of Emergindex, a part of Micromedex Publishers in Denver from 1980 to 1985 and a research director and emergency physician at the Denver General Hospital from 1979 to 1980. He continues to serve as a professor emeritus and researcher at the School of Medicine at the University of Colorado since 2018, having previously sat on the advisory boards of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Red Cross from 1989 to 1993. Civically involved as well, Dr. Honigman has sat on the health care policy and finance committee of the Colorado Poison Control Oversight Board from 1995 to 2005.
To prepare for his career, Dr. Honigman pursued formal education at Case Western Reserve University in Ohio, earning a Bachelor of Science in chemistry, summa cum laude, in 1970. He then went on to receive a Doctor of Medicine from Tufts University in Massachusetts in 1974. Dr. Honigman has further contributed myriad articles to professional journals, as well as been the associate editor of the High Altitude Medicine & Biology journal since 2017.
A diplomate and fellow of the American Board of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Honigman previously served the board as an associate editor between 1988 and 1990. He is additionally a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Wilderness Medical Society and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. As a testament to his longevity in the field, he received the Joseph Sewell Longevity Award and the Professionalism Award from the School of Medicine at the University of Colorado. Notably, Dr. Honigman also earned the Distinguished Service Award from the University of Colorado Hospital and was listed in the 63rd edition of Who's Who in America.
