With more than 45 years of professional experience, Mr. Evans excelled as a freelance percussion instructor from 1981 to 1990. Prior to this appointment, he worked as a percussionist and leader of the Ray Evans Combo from 1965 to 1981 and as a freelance percussionist with various bands from 1949 to 1965. Earlier in his career, Mr. Evans found success as an entertainer and band leader with several shows in 1944.

Mr. Evans initially pursued an education at Pasadena City College, where he completed coursework from 1942 to 1948. He simultaneously served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946, rising to the rank of sergeant. Mr. Evans attended the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music in 1950 while he received instruction from CBS drummer John Jacob. Other musicians he studied with include Dick Shanahan, Les Brown, and the CBS Studio Staff.

A respected voice in his areas of expertise, Mr. Evans has been an active leader in his community. He is a member of the American Federation of Musicians, the Museum of Making Music, and both the Army and United States National Guard Bands. He performed with Walt Disney Studios, the Tournament of Roses Band for four years, and the John Lucas Blues Blowers. He was also a performer and teacher for various concerts, including the Rumbleseat Rascals and Carl Hoffman's Orchestra in San Diego.

Throughout his career, Mr. Evans has been celebrated for his achievements. He has received a number of awards and accolades for his contributions. Likewise, Mr. Evans has been featured in many publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in Entertainment, Who's Who in American Education, and Who's Who in the World.
