Ms. Jones is a public relations professional and the owner and president of Raediant Communications in Los Angeles since 1996. As a communications consultant, strategist and counselor, she brings with her nearly five decades of expertise. From her humble beginnings in college as the managing editor for the Uhuru SaSa Newspaper at Southern Illinois University to today, she has since worked for various other newspapers and organizations like Allstate Insurance Co. She also spent time as a public relations director at Malcolm X College of the City Colleges of Chicago and as a public affairs director for the Children's Bureau of Southern California in Los Angeles. In more recent years, Ms. Jones served as the director of public relations and communications at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, from 1995 to 1996 and as the executive director of Great Beginnings for Black Babies Inc. in Inglewood from 2009 to 2019.
As a journalist and communications strategist of more than 47 years, the bulk of Ms. Jones works have focused on the African American community in the United States. Contributing hundreds of articles that have greatly impacted society over the years, she has written on such topics as health disparities, the disproportionate rate at which African Americans are impacted by domestic violence, developmental disorders like autism and the foster care and judicial systems. Having held executive positions with the Chicago chapters of the National Association of Media Women and the Black Public Relations Society, Ms. Jones has also maintained affiliation with the Black Public Relations Society of Los Angeles, among others organizations.
In her local community, Ms. Jones more recently served as the interim executive director of the Greater Los Angeles African American Chamber of Commerce from 2002 to 2007. She has also contributed her skills to the West Side Cultural Arts Council in Chicago, the arson advisory board for Governor James E. Thompson, and the Illinois Advisory Committee on Arson Prevention. Much earlier in her career, Ms. Jones was the assistant research director for Pyramidwest Development Corp. in Chicago from 1976 to 1978 and was a community liaison and instructor for the Better Boys Foundation in 1975.
Ms. Jones received a Bachelor of Science in journalism, with a minor in home economics and early childhood development, at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 1974. Going on to join Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, she completed graduate coursework in public relations between 1983 and 1985 and studied in the master's and doctoral program in education administration from 1990 to 1991. Completing further graduate coursework in public relations at the University of California Los Angeles between 1992 and 1994, Ms. Jones ultimately obtained a Master of Business Administration in non-profit management from the American Jewish University in Los Angeles in 2015.
Named Woman of the Year with a Sisterly Love Award by the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority in 2016, Ms. Jones also recently received a Community Service Award from the Coalition of Mental Health Professionals and a Pioneer Award from the National Black Public Relations Society in 2015. The recipient of several other awards throughout her career, Ms. Jones has notably been named to the 100 Top African-American Business and Professional Women by the Dollars and Sense magazine, was named Outstanding Young Women of America several times and has been listed in Who's Who in Black Los Angeles, Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, and the 25th edition of Who's Who in the West.
