She holds a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science in Chemistry, and a Doctor of Philosophy in biochemistry from the University of Massachusetts and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Kentucky. She pursued a residency in Internal Medicine at Akron General Medical Center and a fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She has been elected a fellow of the American College of Physicians. She has been the president of the Texas Diabetes and Endocrine Association, and the Bell County Medical Society, and served on the board of directors of the Southern Medical Association.
In 1966 she married Dr. Robert Piziak, a professor mathematics, and together they are philanthropists sponsoring a scholarship at Baylor University in Waco, Texas where Dr. Robert Piziak was the chairman of the Department of Mathematics and partially funding a scholarship at the University of Massachusetts.
Since 1981 she has been a senior staff physician in the Scott and White medical system in Temple, Texas where she served as the Director of the Endocrinology section from 1993-2008, and is presently the director of the Diabetes Section. She was appointed Professor of Medicine at Texas A&M University in 1994. She started the Scott and White Lipid Clinic, the Scott and White Diabetes Education Program, and the Scott and White Obesity Program. She obtained certification for the Baylor, Scott and White Endocrinology fellowship and was the director from 2008-2018. She is a worldwide lecturer in the field of endocrinology and metabolism. She has received teaching awards and been chosen a member of Best Doctors of America. She has been elected a Super Doctor of Texas every year since 2004. She has over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals. Her personal goal is to take the best possible care of the people who trust her with their lives.
