Ronald Jack Crymes is particularly proud of the contributions he made to the gantry for the spaceflight to the moon and the gantry for the space shuttle.

Now retired, Mr. Crymes has accrued nearly four decades of experience as a structural steel detailer and draftsman. A high school math teacher, Mrs. Witcher, inspired Mr. Crymes to become a draftsman. When she repeatedly caught him sketching spaceships in math class, she recognized where his talents lay. She encouraged him to get some drafting tools and pursue that talent.
Prior to embarking on his professional Journey, Mr. Crymes enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1954. During his service as an Electronic Counter Measures operator on RB36 and RB47 bombers, he was asked to draw plans for some special ground support equipment. The equipment he designed won an award from SAC (Strategic Air Command). When he realized his knack for drafting design, he was inspired to seek a higher education. Subsequent to the conclusion of his service in 1957, he completed coursework in Architectural History at the Georgia Institute of Technology between 1957 and 1961. He then attended the Atlanta Division of the University of Georgia for additional math in 1961 and 1962.
At the beginning of his career Mr. Crymes learned the detailing business working for Jack Zwecker and Associates in Atlanta. In 1961, beginning as a print boy and trainee draftsman, he quickly rose to a position of draftsman and then as draftsman checker and field checker. He continued his success at Jack Zwecker and Associates through 1984. His most recent position was founder and president of Accurate Detailing Associates in Atlanta from 1984 to 2015. After establishing Accurate Detailing Associates, he worked with both Addison Steel and Shuff Steel to establish their Atlanta offices in the 1990's. He was also associated with L. N. Ross Engineering as draftsman checker and field checker in the 1990's.
Throughout his impressive career, Mr. Crymes worked on a multitude of diverse projects. The most extensive was all the bridges on Interstate 10 between New Orleans, LA, and Lake Charles, LA. He is proud to have been the detailer of all the steel required for the creation of the Buckhead Library in Atlanta. The library was the recipient of the "1993 National AIA Honor Award of Excellence", the "1991 National AIA / ALA Award of Excellence", the "1990 Georgia AIA Award of Excellence" and the "1990 Urban Design Commission Award of Excellence". The rolled steel canopy in front of the library required that Mr. Crymes write a special computer program to find all the points needed for drawing each individual component.
In addition to the library he worked on the Atlanta High Museum of Art, the 1988 Olympic stadium in Seoul, South Korea, the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, multiple power plants throughout the world, high rise office buildings in Atlanta, New York and other cities, multiple Publix stores, Home Depot Stores, and J. C. Penny warehouses, a garbage shredder, separator and bailer for New York City, and many other projects. The files of the VA and FHA have over 100 house plans drawn by Mr. Crymes so that home loans could be made during the time of the Jimmy Carter Presidency when interest rates rose to 26 percent.
Mr. Crymes is particularly proud of the contributions he made to various NASA space programs. He worked with different teams on the Huntsville, Alabama, facilities where the Red Stone and Atlas rockets were built. He later worked on the gantry for the spaceflight to the moon as well as the gantry for the space shuttle. Mr. Crymes' military jobs included creating a special rail flatcar modification for transporting modified B52 wings, details for a B58 maintenance shed and modifications to the Lockheed Aircraft plant in Georgia.
Outside of work Mr. Crymes enjoys collecting electric trains, watches, pistols, and almost anything mechanical or electrical. He is an active Elder in the Presbyterian church. He has been married to Josephine Boyd Crymes for 54 years and has one daughter and two sons.
