Inspired by a childhood love of rocks, minerals and fossils, Mr. Lienhart is a consultant with DAL Engineering Geologic & Petrographic Services regarding construction rock properties and the evaluation of rocks for erosion control. At the start of his career, he worked as a petrographer for the Ohio River Division Laboratories from 1964 until 1970. From there, Mr. Lienhart became a geologist for the Ohio River Division and subsequently served as a laboratory director from 1976 until 1990.
Prior to moving into a consulting role, Mr. Lienhart worked as hydrologist in geotechnology for the HRTW division of the United States Army Corp of Engineers from 1990 until 1995. In a career filled with highlights, he is especially proud of being requested as a member of the 45-member United States delegation led by Senator Mary Landrieu to meet with Dutch engineers and scientists on coastal protection in the Netherlands in 2006. Additionally, Mr. Lienhart designed a rock mechanics direct shear device, which was sold to an engineering firm in Lexington, Kentucky.
A certified professional geologist, Mr. Lienhart earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science from the University of Cincinnati in 1961 and 1964, respectively. Subsequently, he pursued coursework in nuclear radiology at the United States Army Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear School in Fort McClellan, Alabama, in 1969 and in advanced rock mechanics engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1978.
Mr. Lienhart maintains professional affiliation with the Geological Societies of America and London, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the American Society for Testing and Materials International, the Association for Environmental & Engineering Geologists, the National Ground Water Association and the International Society of Engineering Geology and the Environment. Furthermore, he also devotes his time to the department of geology at the University of Cincinnati as an advisor. For his outstanding work in geology, Mr. Lienhart earned a Publication of the Year Award from the Association of Environmental & Engineering Geologists in 2013.
