For more than a decade, Dr. Schilling has excelled in education and music, culminating in his current responsibilities as the Superintendent of Schools for Lansing School District 158 and a Continuing Adjunct Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at Concordia University Chicago. At the beginning of his career, he served Northwood Middle School as a Director of Bands. Over the years, Dr. Schilling also found much success through his work with Marine Math & Science Academy, Dundee-Crown High School, and Beecher High School.
Previously, Dr. Schilling graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in music and biology from Lake Forest College, a Master of Music in music education with instrumental music and conducting emphasis from Northwestern University, a Certificate of Advanced Study in administration and supervision from National-Louis University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in school leadership from Concordia University Chicago. To remain aware of changes in the field, he is affiliated with the Illinois Association of School Administrators (IASA), Illinois Principals Association, Illinois Association of School Business Officials, American Association of School Administrators, and the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD). With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, Dr. Schilling is a frequent presenter at national and state professional conferences and authored "Every Student Succeeds at Beecher High School: A Whole Child Approach," which was published in Illinois ASCD Quarterly Journal.
In a career filled with highlights, Dr. Schilling is especially proud of his work at Beecher High School, which was named to the College Board's 5th Annual Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Roll and celebrated as the Illinois ASCD Whole Child Overall School during his tenure. Due to his professional excellence, he has been presented with the IASA's James V. & Dorothy B. Moon Scholarship, Coins of Recognitions from Chicago Public Schools and the Illinois High School Association, and the Principals Recognition Award from the Illinois Directors of Student Activities.
Outside of public education, Dr. Schilling earned a black belt in Aikido - a martial art referred to as "The Way of Harmony" - and believes in a collaborative, mutually beneficial approach to problem solving.
