After accruing over 40 years of experience in both the military and security fields, Mr. Zinavage retired from his position as a security officer in 2001. Previously, he joined the armed forces at the age of 18, with whom he trained as an aviation electronics technician aboard the U.S. Navy's first nuclear-equipped bomber, the P2V-7 Neptune. Later, along with 17 other talented servicemen, he was specifically chosen to be one of the first in-flight technicians to fly in a computerized aircraft, the P3C Orion.
After flying in numerous combat missions over a twenty-year span with the navy, Mr. Zinavage was discharged in 1977. He went on to hold various positions throughout the remainder of his career, starting as a CPR instructor in 1978. His exemplary performance earned him two commendations from a local police department, in thanks for demonstrated proper medical treatment to their officers. Mr. Zinavage was later active as an armed security guard for United Nuclear Co., serving on the special tactics and response team until 1989, and he subsequently affiliated with Foxwood Resorts Casino as a guard before retiring in 2001.
In the course of his career, Mr. Zinavage was honored to serve the town of Sprague as its selectman in 1983, and was vice president of the Norwich Area Veterans Council from 1995 to 1996. Prior to this, he authored a novel, "Deployment" in 1993, and went on to pen a memoir regarding his life and ancestry in 2017, "The Zinavage Legacy." A member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and the American Legion, Mr. Zinavage's avocations include coin collecting, historical research, musicianship and acting. He is the proud father of four children, through whom he has welcomed three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren into his immediate family.
