Supported by an impressive educational background and practiced experience, Dr. Dunlap led a prolific career as an educator for 35 years. After earning an Associate of Arts in elementary education from the Kennedy-King College with the City Colleges of Chicago in 1976, she received a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Chicago State University in 1978. A certified intermediate and primary teacher with endorsements in computer science, language arts, general science and social science, she excelled as an intermediate teacher for the Daniel S. Wentworth Elementary School in Chicago between 1978 and 1982. Soon thereafter, Dr. Dunlap briefly served for a year as a kindergarten teacher with the Grimes Fleming Elementary School in Chicago, before holding the post of an intermediate and upper level computer teacher with the Harvard School of Excellence in Chicago, a position she has held since 1983.
While working at her current appointment, Dr. Dunlap also contributed as the dean of students for the aforementioned school from 2002 to 2005, as well as a consultant for the Higgins Community Academy between 2012 and 2013, and a business administrator for the Cosmopolitan Church of Prayer in 2017. Aside from her primary vocation, other career-related endeavors include working as a chorus music director for the Harvard School of Excellence, a computer consultant for the First Baptist Church of Chicago, and a graduation coordinator with the Higgins Community Academy. As a testament to her success, Dr. Dunlap was presented the Ella Flag Young Award in 1986. Likewise, she has been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women. To remain aware of developments in her field, she maintains affiliation with the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Alliance of Black School Educators and Kappa Delta Pi. Outside of her career, Dr. Dunlap enjoys computer technology, videography, photography, reading and sports in her spare time.
