Accruing 64 years of industry experience to his credit, Mrs. Cruz has worked as a private practice marriage and family therapist in the San Antonio area since 1980, as well as a part-time counselor at the Holy Spirit Catholic School since 1990. Originally from Dumaguete, the Philippines, she began her professional career teaching at Roosevelt High School in Manila, the Philippines, in 1955, remaining in this position for two years. Immigrating to the United States in 1957, Mrs. Cruz joined the Holy Spirit Catholic School as a teacher from 1968 to 1970 and counselor from 1972 to 1975.
Prior to embarking on her professional path, Mrs. Cruz pursued a formal education at the University of the Philippines Manila, earning a Bachelor of Education in 1955. Following this accomplishment, she obtained a Master of Education in guidance counseling from Trinity University in San Antonio in 1972 and a specialist degree in marriage and family therapy from St. Mary's University in San Antonio in 1980. In addition to these academic honors, Mrs. Cruz is a certified marriage and family therapist in the state of Texas.
Active in her local community, Mrs. Cruz chaired the family advisory board at St. Mary's University from 1985 to 1986. Serving on the advisory board for the Child Abuse Prevention Services in San Antonio since 1994, she has also contributed as a writer on child abuse programs. Outside of her primary trade, Mrs. Cruz keeps updated of trends in her field through affiliations with numerous related organizations. A member of the ethics committee for the Licensed Professional Counselors of Texas since 1995, she has served the Texas Counseling Association on its lobbying-licensure committee in 1980 and on its ethics committee since 1985. Additionally, she served as the president of San Antonio Marriage and Family Therapy from 1985 to 1986 and has maintained involvement with thw Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy as a Diplomate and Fellow.
In light of her exceptional undertakings, Mrs. Cruz was named Volunteer of the Year by the Child Abuse Prevention Services in 1991. Likewise, she is the recipient of the Community Service Award. She was previously selected for inclusion in the 20th edition of Who's Who in the World and the 56th edition of Who's Who in America, as well as in several editions of Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who's Who of American Women. Today, she resides in Texas with her loving husband of 64 years, Anatolio Benedicto Cruz Jr., MD, with whom she has raised four wonderful children, Raquel Regina (a three-star Vice Admiral and MD), Anatolio Benedicto III, (a retired Rear Admiral and lawyer), Anthony Bradley (a Captain in the Texas State Guard and CEO), and Roselle Regina (Vice President of a Well Fargo Bank). Mrs. Cruz is also a doting grandmother to six beloved grandchildren, Corey, Taylor, Lauren, Caroline, Ben and Ana.
