Ms. Sanders has accrued more than five decades of experience as a medical technologist and an educator, having excelled as a substitute teacher from 2009 to 2018. At the beginning of her career, she worked as a medical technologist for Boone Memorial Hospital in Madison, WV, from 1965 to 1974. Soon thereafter, Ms. Sanders accepted the same role with the Logan Regional General Hospital from 1989 to 2006. While holding this appointment, she simultaneously contributed as a teacher of vocational health with Boone County Schools in Madison from 1974 to 2009 for Boone Career and Technical Center.
A graduate of West Virginia State University, Ms. Sanders earned a Bachelor of Arts in medical technology, cum laude, in 1986. She completed postgraduate coursework at Marshall University, and is certified as a medical technologist. Additionally, Ms. Sanders is the holder of a permanent vocational teaching license in the state of West Virginia.
In addition to her primary responsibilities, Ms. Sanders served as an adjunct professor for Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College and a member of the Boone County Advisory Board on Vocational Education. For her achievements in the field, she has been presented with the Outstanding Educator in Vocational Education Award by the West Virginia State Board of Education. Likewise, Ms. Sanders was recognized as an Outstanding Educator in Elementary and Secondary Education from Boone County, WV, in 1976.
To remain aware of developments in her field, Ms. Sanders maintains her affiliation with the American Medical Technologists Association, the Association for Career and Technical Education, the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, the West Virginia Education Association, and HOSA - Future Health Professionals, among other organizations. She has been a regular attendee of advisory meetings at the Boone Career and Tech Center since 2009. Outside of her work, Ms. Sanders enjoys reading, dancing and exercising during her spare time.
